Big Bad Burgers are packed with bold flavors, featuring juicy beef patties topped with a sweet and savory caramelized onion and mushroom mixture, melted pepperjack cheese, crispy extra beef, and a creamy dollop of guacamole. This burger delivers a satisfying explosion of flavors in every bite, making it a perfect choice for any burger lover seeking something extra special. Whether for a casual dinner or a BBQ gathering, these burgers are sure to impress.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • 4 fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 pound ground beef (for the patties)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • Salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices pepperjack cheese
  • 1/2 pound of additional ground beef (optional, to add on top of the burger or mix into patties for extra flavor)
  • ¼ cup guacamole, or to taste

Preparation Steps:

  1. Cook the Onions and Mushrooms: Follow the same initial steps for sautéing the onions, mushrooms, and caramelizing them with brown sugar.
  2. Make the Beef Patties: Mix the ground beef with egg, bread crumbs, horseradish, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, dried minced onion, salt, and black pepper. Form into patties and grill or pan-fry to your desired doneness.
  3. Optional Extra Beef Layer: If you want extra beef in your burger, you can cook an additional ½ pound of ground beef and crumble it on top of the burger before adding cheese and finishing the grilling process.
  4. Assemble the Burger: Top the cooked beef patty with the caramelized mushrooms, onions, pepperjack cheese, and a dollop of guacamole for a savory and creamy finish.

With the beef substitution, your burger will still maintain that hearty, savory flavor, and the addition of extra beef on top will keep it juicy and satisfying. This alternative keeps the same savory, meaty essence while swapping bacon for a more substantial beef option.

Big Bad Burger

Big Bad Burgers are a flavorful twist on the classic burger, made with juicy ground beef patties, caramelized onions and mushrooms, pepperjack cheese, crispy bacon (or additional beef), and creamy guacamole. This explosion of flavors is perfect for a casual family dinner or a weekend BBQ.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ½ onion, sliced
  • 4 fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 2 tablespoons steak sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 slices pepperjack cheese
  • 6 slices cooked bacon, cut into halves
  • ¼ cup guacamole, or to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil the grate.

  2. Melt butter in a skillet over medium-low heat. Cook and stir onion and mushrooms in melted butter until the onions are very tender and beginning to brown, 10 to 15 minutes. Sprinkle brown sugar over the mixture and continue cooking until the onions caramelize, 5 to 10 minutes more; remove from heat and set aside.

  3. Mix ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, horseradish, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, dried onion, salt, and black pepper in a bowl; shape into 4 patties about 6 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick.

  4. Cook burgers on preheated grill until completely browned, about 3 minutes per side. Reduce heat to medium and cook burgers another 3 minutes per side, topping each burger with a slice of pepperjack cheese for the last minute of cooking.

  5. Top each burger with about 1/4 of the mushroom and onion mixture, 3 pieces of bacon, and 1 tablespoon guacamole to serve.
